Global withdrawal for contact lens solution

A contact lens solution — ReNu MoistureLoc — linked to an increased incidence of ocular Fusarium infections in Asia and the US has been withdrawn worldwide by its manufacturer Bausch & Lomb.

Earlier this month, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency reported that the risk of ocular fusarium keratitis infection was not increased in the UK.

In a statement issued earlier this week, the MHRA lists symptoms of fusarium infection, including redness, pain, foreign body sensation, tearing, increased light sensitivity, blurred vision, discharge and swelling. It says that onset of symptoms is not acute but occurs over several days or weeks. If symptoms are experienced, contact lens wearers should remove their lenses and consult their optician immediately.

Information for consumers who want to exchange their MoistureLoc solution is available online
