Roche Diagnostics

Direct mail

From Mr P. Shah, MRPharmS

Yet another manufacturer has been sucked in by the multiples. I refer to a promotional deal offered by Roche Diagnostics for its new Accu-Chek Aviva blood glucose meter through multiple pharmacies. Patients who had previously bought Accu-Chek meters from us and subsequently registered their purchase with Roche Diagnostics are now being directed to the multiples by direct mail. Sorry, Roche Diagnostics, but I have just removed your meters from my stock.

Paresh Shah
Triangle Healthcare (UK) Ltd,
Bushey, Hertfordshire

CHRIS BETTS, senior market manager — retail, Roche Diagnostics Ltd, responds:

Roche Diagnostics apologises for any misunderstanding that has been caused. We are totally committed to all our pharmacy customers and continuously promote the unique products and services we can provide through both multiples and independents in fair proportions. As part of our plan to upgrade people with diabetes to our most patient-friendly meter to date, Accu-Chek Aviva, we will shortly mail people with diabetes from our database, and all independent pharmacies are invited to participate. Any pharmacy wishing to take part should call the Accu-Chek Pharmacy Helpline for details on 0800 195 1440.
