Non-medical prescribers link up to have a single voice
Health professionals have formed a new group — the Confederation for Prescribers — to enable them to speak about prescribing issues with a common voice.
The Association for Extended Prescribers, a collaboration between the
Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy,
the College of Radiographers, the College of Optometrists and the Society
of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, is forming the confederation along with
the Association for Nurse Prescribing (ANP). The confederation will comprise
representatives of each of the organisations involved. June Crown, CBE,
will be its president.
Robert Clayton, head of practice at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society,
told The Journal: “This collaboration will be of mutual benefit
to both organisations and their members, who will be working together
to bring patients safe and rapid access to their medicines through extended
prescribing. The Society, as a member of the Association for Extended
Prescribers, looks forward to working more closely with the ANP on issues
of common interest to supplementary and independent prescribers.” |
