Pharmacists' role in managing musculoskeletal complaints

Community pharmacists can play a central part in the management of musculoskeletal complaints, draft guidance from the Welsh Assembly Government suggests.

WAG’s consultation on service development and commissioning directives for arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions argues that community pharmacists have “an important role to play in referring or signposting people with musculoskeletal complaints onwards to appropriate health professionals”.

They are also an important source of information and advice, it adds.

The directives included in the consultation are the first in a series supporting the redesign of care for chronic conditions outlined in “Designed for life”. The directives will provide guidance to planners and commissioners of health and social care services.

The consultation document and details of how to respond. Responses must be received by 4 August 2006.
