TRIBUTE
John Bedford Stenlake

Tribute

Stenlake in a tribute to the late John Bedford Stenlake (PJ, 29 April, p519), IAIN J. McGILVERAY, adjunct professor, University of Ottawa, Canada, writes:

I was sad to see the notice of the passing of one of the late 20th century giants of academic pharmacy, Professor J. B. Stenlake, who was my graduate supervisor. Frank (PJ, 6 May, p550) has indicated John’s worldwide influence and, certainly in Canada, his academic and research ideas were promulgated by students who became deans and vice-presidents (eg, John Steele, Manitoba, and Ron Coutts, Alberta).

The professor was mentor and example to his students, with his meticulously prepared, stimulating lectures and critiques of experimental plans. However, I also recall his humility and admiration when we attended a lecture by a chemistry Nobel laureate.

This true gentleman and scholar will be remembered by all those who followed in his footsteps.
