Conference to look at getting more pharmacists involved in veterinary pharmacy

Getting involved in veterinary pharmacy is to be a theme of this year's weekend conference of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Veterinary Pharmacists Group.

The conference takes place in Stratford-upon-Avon on Sunday 16 July, preceded by dinner on the previous evening.

With the title “Choosing animal health through pharmacy: how pharmacists can get involved in veterinary medicines”, the conference will include a session on training resources for pharmacists and support staff and a workshop session on how to increase pharmacists’ involvement in veterinary pharmacy.

Other sessions will provide updates on veterinary legislation, vaccines, veterinary pharmaceuticals and zoonoses.

Content: How pharmacists can get involved in veterinary medicines

Aim: To provide an update on veterinary medicine legislation, with case studies on how the new regulations are impacting on pharmacy; to provide an update on training resources for pharmacists and support staff; to consider how to involve pharmacists more in veterinary practice; to provide updates on vaccines, pharmaceutical care for animals, veterinary pharmaceuticals and zoonoses.

Speakers: to include John Fitzgerald, director of policy, Veterinary Medicines Directorate; Michael Jepson, tutor, VPG diploma in veterinary pharmacy; Michelle Styles, head of information services, National Pharmacy Association; Rod Jones, practising veterinary pharmacist; Alasdair King, veterinary manager, Intervet; Nigel Calvert, consultant in communicable diseases, Health Protection Agency

Fees: Full rate (including Saturday dinner and quiz, Saturday night accommodation, Sunday breakfast, Sunday conference, Sunday lunch and refreshments) £210; accompanying persons (Saturday and Sunday) £100; Sunday conference only (including lunch and refreshments) £30 members, £40 non-members.
