Packaging design

Waste makers

From Mr M. Yee, MRPharmS

The recent redesign of the Angettes pack surely was an exercise in waste making. The project failed. It was a disaster for ecology and it failed to conserve materials. The container for 28 tablets could hold many more tablets. Redesigning achieved only one thing: a job for someone, but what a waste of time and money and what disruption. Angettes was out of stock for six months.

Malcolm Yee

BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB responds:

To comply with the Medicines (Child Safety) Regulations on child-resistant packaging, the blister packaging of Angettes (aspirin), marketed by Bristol-Myers Squibb, is currently being upgraded. We are developing a new blister packaging but it will be a few months before it will be available in the UK.

In the interim, Angettes is available in a bottle with a child-resistant closure, which meets the requirements of the regulations. This will help ensure product availability while the blister packaging is being improved.
