Oxygen cylinder reimbursements to continue

Pharmacy contractors will continue to be reimbursed for oxygen cylinders for the foreseeable future, NHS Primary Care Contracting told The Journal this week.

The Department of Health had originally intended to remove oxygen cylinders from the Drug Tariff after the end of July.

However, a spokeswoman for NHS Primary Care Contracting explained that the DoH decided to keep cylinders in the Drug Tariff because there may be instances where the four new supplier companies are unable to provide all patients with cylinders from 1 August.

The latest issue of the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee’s Community Pharmacy News also explains that reimbursement of cylinders will continue after the end of July.

“No changes will be made to the Drug Tariff, so FP10s may still be dispensed and out-of-pocket expenses will be able to be claimed on rental charges for portable cylinders,” it says.
