Overwhelming support for new contract in Scotland

Community pharmacist contractors in Scotland have voted overwhelmingly to support their proposed new contract.

The result of the ballot shows that 97.83 per cent of contractors voted “yes” to the question: “Do you support the proposed financial framework for the new Scottish pharmaceutical care services contract?” Altogether, 83.2 per cent of contractors took part in the ballot, casting a total of 970 votes.

Frank Owens, chairman of the Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council, said that he was delighted by the almost universal response in support of the package. “This vote has been critical to securing our futures. With the ballot now behind us, we can at last look forward to beginning delivery of the new contract services, ensuring community pharmacists gain rightful recognition as key practitioner members of the primary health care team,” he commented. Mr Owens added that next on the agenda for the negotiating team is the design and implementation requirements of the chronic medication service.
