Minor ailment service registration starts
Pharmacists are reporting a successful start to the minor ailment service (MAS) in Scotland following the start of the patient registration period last week.
In the first few days — between 1 and 5 June — 20,000 patients
were registered for the service at 300 pharmacies across Scotland. The
average response time of the central patient registration system for
each registration request has been less than 10 seconds.
Alison Strath, principal pharmaceutical officer at the Scottish Executive,
told The Journal: “I am delighted with the progress being
made on eMAS implementation. It has also been a really worthwhile exercise
to allow a month to test the software, systems and support services to
ensure that we are all ready for 1 July when MAS goes live.”

published a guide
to implementing MAS on its website this week.
A copy of the pack will be sent to community pharmacies later in
June and pharmacists can also request a copy (details on the NES
website). In addition, an updated list of frequently
asked questions about MAS has been published on the new contract
website.
