Oncology societies call for access to innovation

Patients with cancer should have access to innovative medicines and should be able to participate in relevant clinical trials, according to the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the European Society for Medical Oncology.

The two oncology societies have drawn up a list of goals intended to help health service providers achieve quality cancer care. As well as access to innovative therapies, the societies call for patients to be empowered to participate in decision-making and for them to be looked after by multidisciplinary teams.

The goals are set out in a statement published online by the Annals of Oncology and the Journal of Clinical Oncology
