Council asked to develop links with pharmacists in Iraq
The branch representatives'
meeting carried without dissent a motion that the Council should support and develop links with the Syndicate of Iraqi Pharmacists and schools of pharmacy in Iraq either directly or via international pharmacy bodies.
Anthony Cox (Birmingham) said that after three wars, years of sanctions
and continuing disruption to civil life in Iraq, including the targeting
of academics, Iraq’s pharmacy schools are short of books and other
teaching materials. Also, as a result of sanctions, Iraq’s pharmaceutical
society, the Iraqi Syndicate of Pharmacists, has been unable to participate
fully in the international arena.
The motion sought to send a message of friendship and solidarity to Iraqi
pharmacists, said Mr Cox. How this was done he would leave to the Council.
He welcomed the help that the Society was already providing but said
that the value of an expression of solidarity and friendship to fellow
pharmacists should not be underestimated.
