Three School of Pharmacy fellowships awarded

James Gemmell, Douglas Kinghorn and Pradip Patel

Douglas Kinghorn, Pradip Patel and James Gemmell have been awarded fellowships of the School of Pharmacy, University of London.

Professor Kinghorn, who completed his doctorate of philosophy at the school in 1975 and received a DSc from the university in 1990, is currently Jack Beal professor and chair in natural products chemistry and pharmacognosy at the Ohio State University. He was awarded a diploma of fellowship for his “distinguished contribution to the developments of all aspects of natural products and pharmacognosy”.

Mr Patel, superintendent pharmacist for Boots The Chemists, graduated from the school in 1976. He was awarded a diploma of fellowship in acknowledgement of his “contribution to the profession and practice of pharmacy”.

Mr Gemmell, treasurer of the School of Pharmacy council, was awarded an honorary fellowship in recognition of his “very significant contribution to the financial direction of the school”.

The fellowships were celebrated at a dinner held at Goodenough College, London, on 31 May.
