Council looks into setting up limited company to run the Society's publications business
The possibility of establishing a limited liability company to house the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's publications activity is under consideration by the Council.
At the June Council
meeting, the Resource Management Committee asked
the Council to consider such a proposal following an approach from the
Society’s publications business, RPS Publishing.
The Council considered that there was merit in further investigating
a proposal to form a wholly owned limited liability company that would
protect the Society’s assets and support the growth of the business.
The Council recognised that, as well as a detailed business case for
the proposal, it needed to consider how the proposal would affect the
Society’s interests as a whole and what issues might arise for
the membership. It also needed to consider how the proposal woudl affect
the publications staff, on whom, the Council acknowledged, the success
of publishing depends.
The Council agreed to establish a group to consider all these matters
and report back to the August Council meeting.
