Society launches new-look, user-friendly website

The home page of the Society's new-look website

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has relaunched its website (www.rpsgb.org) with the aim of delivering a much more user-friendly experience. The new-look website was designed after consultation with members and other users of the site.

The Society says: “The new structure aims to provide a more intuitive front door for visitors wanting to access information about the pharmacy profession, the Society and its work and about the support provided for members through the website. In addition the new site makes it much easier to locate and download the various sources of information produced by the Society.

“The technical design of the site and the new look and feel have been created to ensure that it is accessible to as wide a range of readers as possible and all work has been carried out to ensure that the site also complies fully with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.”

The home page of the new website has links to six main sections concerned with key areas of the Society’s work. The six sections of the site are as follows:

· Society functions The Society’s functions and structure, covering key documents about the Society and its history, the Society’s business plan and annual review, the British Pharmaceutical Conference, meetings at the Society, people and structures, the Council and its work, devolution/national pharmacy boards, awards and scholarships, job vacancies at the Society, how to complain about the Society.

· A career in pharmacy Pharmacy careers, pharmacy education policy, undergraduate education (including links to school of pharmacy websites), preregistration training, the roles of pharmacy support staff, and working in other countries.

· Registration and support Information on areas of support for the profession including registering with the Society, fee structure and payment of fees, updating personal details, clinical governance, audit resources, continuing professional development, postgraduate courses and further training, leadership in pharmacy.

· Protecting the public The Society’s work as a regulator, including fitness-to-practise standards, codes of ethics, the pharmacy inspectorate and its roles, how to complain about a pharmacist, pharmacy premises or pharmacy technician, and the Society’s disciplinary committees.

· Information resources The Society’s press office, library, advisory services and museum, with quick links to downloadable documents published by the Society.

· World of pharmacy The wider world of pharmacy, including current developments, the use of medicines, science, practice research, working with other bodies, events and meetings.

The home page also carries current Society news releases and has links to Society sister sites, such as the Scottish and Welsh websites, PJ Online, PJ Careers, the Pharmaceutical Press, the British Pharmaceutical Conference and the Society’s careers site and continuing professional development site.

A “Download documents” link takes the visitor to an index to the hundreds of document available to download from the site.

Launching the website, the Society’s President, Hemant Patel, said: “The internet is a vital communication tool in today’s world and the Society’s website is our electronic window to the world. Our members have told us that they wanted the website to be easier to use and the improvements introduced reflect this. Simpler navigation and a more user-friendly design will allow faster access to relevant information for all those who visit our site.

“The launch of the new site signals the start of new development and we will be working to ensure that the site continues to meet members’ needs.”
