AAH offers support for new contract public health service in Scotland

As the countdown to the start of the new pharmacy contract in Scotland begins, AAH Pharmaceuticals is highlighting one of its services as a way to help pharmacists implement the public health service.

The AAH package comprises two components: materials for public health services and the support of a public relations agency. The idea is that once the public health services are in place — services such as smoking cessation, blood pressure monitoring, weight management and diabetes screening — a local public relations campaign is launched to promote what the pharmacy offers.

Ajit Malhi, AAH’s professional services manager, explained: “The Scottish Executive Health Department will provide materials for up to four national six-week public health campaigns a year, but this leaves pharmacists a further 28 weeks when they can implement additional campaigns.” This is where the AAH package could fit in, providing training materials, patient information booklets and promotional materials.

Ian Will, of Will Chemist, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, has used the service. “The public relations people helped immensely and produced a press release for us,” he commented. “I was delighted and surprised that the article in the Evening Express generated so much interest. We had so many people wanting to make use of the service that we ended up with more requests than we were able to cater for.”
