No strong evidence to favour any one drug for Bell’s palsy

No firm conclusions can be drawn about the benefit of any single drug for the treatment of Bell's palsy, the Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin says in its July issue (2006;44:52). Trials on the efficacy of drug treatments for the condition have generally been poor. The bulletin says there is weak evidence from one trial that aciclovir and corticosteroid treatment given together may be beneficial compared with corticosteroid alone, however this combination has not been compared with placebo. The July issue of DTB also reviews the treatment of hypothyroidism in pregnant women (ibid, p53).
