Bill Scott: strong leadership

Bill Scott, Scotland's chief pharmaceutical officer, was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree at a Robert Gordon University graduation ceremony last week. The degree was awarded in recognition of his role in providing strong leadership for the pharmacy profession in Scotland.

“Bill has had many successes as chief pharmaceutical officer which can be perhaps best illustrated by the strategy developed by the Scottish Executive for pharmaceutical care which culminated in the publication in 2002 of the document ‘The right medicine’,” a university spokesman said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Scott said: “Pharmacy graduates here today can look forward to the most exciting period for the profession ever. … Pharmacists will work hand-in-hand with other members of the health care team and patients to provide direct clinical services, not simply dispensing services. Robotic technology will take over the mechanics of dispensing.”
