Independents develop course for preregistration trainees

A group of independent community pharmacists has developed a training course for preregistration trainees. They say that the idea was inspired by trainees' feelings of isolation when preparing for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's registration examination.

The group — Preregistration Training Support — is led by Vibhaker Patel, an independent community pharmacist. The study days are run by pharmacists and designed to provide training on preregistration syllabus topics that may be hard to teach in the workplace. They also allow trainees to meet colleagues from other independent pharmacies.

Noma Al-Ahmad, a locum pharmacist involved in co-ordinating the training days and developing their content, told The Journal: “We hope that providing such a course will encourage independent community pharmacists to take on preregistration trainees.”

A Preregistration Training Support website (www.communitypharmacy.co.uk), launched this week, gives details of the course. There are plans to develop the site to include a forum and a free monthly newsletter.
