Spironolactone and ulcersSpironolactone is associated with a 2.7-fold increased risk of upper gastrointestinal events, a Dutch study has revealed. Researchers examined the occurrence of gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers in a population-based case control study. They suggest that caution and careful follow-up is required when prescribing spironolactone for patients at risk of upper gastrointestinal events (BMJ Online First, 13 July 2006). |
