“Ever smoked” campaign

Developing Patient Partnerships has launched a campaign called “Ever smoked” to raise awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease following research commissioned by the health education charity that revealed most people have not heard of the condition.

A telephone survey of 1,028 adults, conducted on behalf of DPP by ICM Research, revealed that 72 per cent of those questioned had not heard of COPD and 77 per cent were unaware that the disease kills more people than breast, prostate or bowel cancer. More than half (51 per cent) of those questioned said they would not visit their GP if they were experiencing a persistent smoker’s cough.
