Society seeks Byelaw amendment to recognise independent prescribing
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is seeking an amendment to the Society's Byelaws to allow annotation of the Register of Pharmaceutical Chemists to recognise pharmacists who become independent prescribers. Under the current Byelaw wording, annotation is possible only for supplementary prescribers.
Another effect of the proposed Byelaw alterations would be to introduce
an annual fee of £35 for the retention of annotations in
the Register. The fee would have to be accompanied by evidence that the
pharmacist remains qualified to order drugs, medicines and appliances
as a supplementary or independent prescriber.
The annual fee would be in addition to the initial application fee of £35
which is currently paid by supplementary prescribers and would be extended
to independent prescribers.
Other proposed changes are for the purpose of clarification.
The proposed alterations to the Byelaws have been gazetted as an Official
Notice in this issue of The Journal (p144). The Council intends to submit
the amendment to the Privy Council for its approval at the end of a statutory
60-day consultation period.
