Web-based IT system installed in hospital pharmacy

Dispensary and stores processes at Tameside General Hospital, Lancashire, are now being managed by a web-based IT system developed by Ascribe. This system, which Ascribe says is the first web-based pharmacy department system to be successfully implemented in a UK hospital, allows staff to make requests to the pharmacy through authorised web-access points.

Stephen Freeborn, head of pharmacy at Ascribe, explained that web-based communication provides greater flexibility to pharmacists in terms of their physical location, and that such systems also integrate better with web-based services developed for electronic prescribing and electronic recording of medicine administration. Ascribe claims that this new technology also saves time and reduces errors. Mr Freeborn added: “Web-based solutions are also physically robust. This provides higher levels of system stability and reduces network risks still further.”
