Changes to supply of home oxygen service revealed

Negotiations to change suppliers of the home oxygen service are under way in some parts of England and Wales, it was revealed this week.

A spokesman for Air Products told The Journal that the company has agreed to transfer its contract for the South West region to BOC. He said the decision was taken in the interests of patient care and that the switch-over will begin in October.

Health minister Lord Warner paid tribute, in an interview on Radio 4’s Today programme this week, to the way community pharmacists had “responded magnificently” to the problems with the new service. He said that community pharmacists had “done a terrific job” in continuing to supply patients with oxygen where there had been supply difficulties.
