Council agrees action plan for Society response to health regulation review
The Council has agreed a forward plan of action on the proposals contained in the two recently completed reviews of the regulation of health professionals
(PJ, 22 July, p91 and p97).
The reviews — one of the General Medical Council by chief medical
officer Sir Liam Donaldson and the other of all non-medical regulators
by former Department of Health workforce director Andrew Foster — call
for far-reaching changes to regulatory bodies and their operations in
order to introduce consistency of regulation and increase public confidence.
At the August
Council meeting, the Council agreed a timetabled plan for
how the Society will prepare its response to the specific challenges
contained in these two Department of Health reports.
