Council approves new constitution for pharmacy students' association
A revised constitution for the British Pharmaceutical Students Association has been given the approval of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Council.
The revision (PJ, 25 March, p365), which was adopted by the BPSA at its
conference in April, follows a review of the constitution by a working
group which included members of the BPSA executive and Society staff.
The proposed changes have little practical effect but are designed to
bring the constitution into line with the modernisation of the Society.
As part of a review of sections of the Society’s Byelaws that are
to be replaced with regulations, the Council, at the August
Council meeting,
also made some policy changes to clarify the BPSA’s relationship
with the Society.
Among these was a decision to formalise the procedure whereby the BPSA proposes
its constitution and the Council approves it. The Byelaws simply refer to the
constitution being decided jointly by the BPSA and the Society.
The Council also decided to discontinue a Byelaw requirement for the BPSA subscription
to be decided by the Council and to discontinue describing the BPSA as a “section” of
the Society.
A further change will clarify the arrangement under which students are offered
subscriptions to The Pharmaceutical Journal at a discount rate.
