Model rules for branches of Society to be less restrictive

The model rules for Royal Pharmaceutical Society branches, set out in the Byelaws, are not to be carried across wholesale into the regulations that will replace the Byelaws, the Council decided at the August Council meeting. Instead, most of the rules will be incorporated into guidance.

The Council made its decision after learning that many branches have found the rules to be unhelpfully restrictive.

The Council also agreed to amend the definition of a branch member, currently defined as a member of the Society “residing” in the branch area. The word “residing” will be replaced by “registered”. Branch members will still, however, be able to opt to join a different branch.
