Display of trade catalogues

Frank Tebbutt's List of Domestic Medicines' (1807)

Part of a page from ‘Frank Tebbutt’s List of Domestic Medicines’ (1807)

A new small display in the library at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's London headquarters offers a taste of community pharmacy history in the form of trade catalogues from the library's collection of early printed works.

The catalogues were printed by chemists and druggists to promote their products, and specifically their pharmacy-made concoctions. Such catalogues were most typically produced between 1860 and 1950, but the library’s collection includes some earlier examples dating back to 1807.
