Community pharmacy wins PCT contract to supply aseptic products for palliative care

Manor Pharmacy — a 46 strong community pharmacy multiple in the East Midlands — has won a contract from Erewash Primary Care Trust to prepare and supply pre-filled syringes of medicines for use in palliative care.

The company was approached by the PCT and will supply aseptically prepared syringes for use by individual patients and nursing home residents.

Manor Pharmacy’s business development manager, Linda Ferguson, said: “We believe this new approach will provide a seamless service in terms of preparation and delivery of prescriptions. Patients should notice a faster delivery and we will be able to track prescriptions on a daily basis as they are delivered.”

Pharmacy technicians at Manor Pharmacy will be trained in aseptic preparation by Helen Martin, a pharmacy lecturer at the University of Derby.

She said: “I will be training technical staff in areas including an introduction to pharmaceutical microbiology, hygiene in aseptic unit operations, cleanroom disciplines, aseptic manipulation and preparation, and stability and compatibility.”
