Celecoxib as chemopreventive

Celecoxib has no role as a chemopreventive agent in the general population or in patients with non-familial colonic adenomas, say authors of an editorial commenting on two trials published in The New England Journal of Medicine (2006;355:950).

The trials (ibid, p873 and p885) show that celecoxib prevents metachronous adenomas in patients with a history of adenomas but also demonstrate the drug’s associated cardiovascular risks.
