Pegaptanib in diabetic retinopathy

Patients with diabetic retinopathy treated with the selective vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor pegaptanib have improved visual acuity compared with control patients (+4.7 letters versus –0.4 letters; P=0.04), and are less likely to need laser treatment (25 per cent versus 48 per cent; P=0.042).

So suggests a trial of 172 patients presented at the European VitreoRetinal Society meeting in Cannes last week.
