Latest BNF published

British National FormularyThe latest edition of the British National Formulary was published this week. New to BNF 52 is guidance on selecting antibiotics to manage meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections and a warning regarding the potential confusion between “absolute glomerular filtration rate” (creatinine clearance) and “estimated GFR” when calculating drug dosage adjustments for patients with kidney disease (see Article, pp403–4).

The new edition also contains an updated childhood immunisation schedule (to incorporate the Department of Health recommendation for routine immunisation against pneumococcal disease and new timings for other vaccines) as well as revisions to anticoagulation targets, asthma management and hypertension management, following recent research and evidence.
