SPC changes
BritLofex
The summary of product characteristics for BritLofex (lofexidine hydrochloride;
Britannia Pharmaceuticals) has been updated. The initial dose has been
changed to 0.8mg/day in divided doses and the increments per day have
changed to 0.4–0.8mg/day. See SPC.
Crystapen
The summary of product characteristics for Crystapen (benzylpenicillin
sodium; Britannia Pharmaceuticals) has been updated. It now states
that penicillins may interfere with urinary glucose tests, Coomb’s
tests, tests for urinary or serum proteins and tests which use bacteria,
such as the Guthrie test. See SPC.
Myfortic
The summary of product characteristics for Myfortic (mycophenolic acid;
Novartis) now includes additional information in the interactions and
undesirable effects section.
Lip ulceration, parotid duct obstruction, rigors, thirst, back pain,
muscle cramps, abnormal dreams, delusional perception and haematuria
have been added to the adverse events section. See SPC.
Plavix
The summary of product characteristics for Plavix (clopidogrel; Bristol-Myers
Squibb) has been updated. It now states that Plavix is indicated for
the prevention of atherothrombotic events in ST segment elevation acute
myocardial infarction, in combination with aspirin in medically treated
patients eligible for thrombolytic therapy. For this indication, Plavix
should be given as a single dose of 75mg initiated with a loading dose
in combination with aspirin, and with or without thrombolytics. For
patients over 75 years of age Plavix should be initiated without a
loading dose. Combined therapy should be started as early as possible
after symptoms start and continued for at least four weeks. The benefit
of the combination of Plavix with aspirin beyond four weeks has not
been studied for this indication. See SPC.
Reyataz
The summary of product characteristics for Reyataz (atazanavir; Bristol-Myers
Squibb) has been updated to include diabetes mellitus and hyperglycaemia
as adverse events. See SPC.
Salofalk
The summaries of product characteristics for Salofalk Granules (mesalazine;
Dr Falk Pharma) now include cholestatic hepatitis as an undesirable
effect. See SPCs.
