Tribute
Ogden In a tribute
to the late Norman
Clifford Ogden (PJ, 16 September,
p354), HILARY DAVIES writes:
Clifford, as he was known, studied pharmacy
at the University of Manchester. Once qualified he managed a village
pharmacy in Garstang, and also a veterinary dispensary for local farms.
As a sideline he raised chicks to sell to the farms and smallholdings.
Clifford bought his first pharmacy in Beeston, Nottingham, in 1938, before
his marriage to Mary. The purchase of a second business followed and
he remained
owner of the two pharmacies until his retirement in 1979. The original pharmacy
still bears his name, “Ogden’s Pharmacy”.
Clifford was well known in the local area. He was friendly, with a kind heart
and a generous outlook on life. Many people remember how, in his professional
life, he would go out of his way to be helpful and enquire after their well-being.
Mary and Clifford were both devout Christians and committed members of the Methodist
church. They were active in retirement, often giving lifts to and from hospital
and doctor’s appointments.
Mary passed away in 2003 after 64 years of marriage. Clifford spent the last
year of his life in Silverwood Nursing Home, where he received excellent care
until he joined Mary on 22 August.
Our love and sympathy are with his son Peter, daughter-in-law Karen and grandchildren
Janine, Joanne and Christopher.
