Death of honorary member Nippe Strandqvist
The death has been announced of Nils-Olof (“Nippe”) Strandqvist, a Swedish pharmacist and former president of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), who was made an honorary member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 2001.
Dr Strandqvist graduated as a pharmacist in 1959 and after a range of
appointments in community pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry became
pharmacy manager at the University Hospital in Uppsala in 1982. From
1987 to 1996 he was head of the department of quality in pharmacy service
at Apoteksbolaget (the National Corporation of Swedish Pharmacists).
He was vice-president of FIP from 1987 to 1990 and president from 1990
to 1994. As president, he pioneered the federation’s adoption of
an international code of good pharmacy practice, which was subsequently
adopted by the World Health Organization. In 2002 he received the André Bédat
award, the FIP’s highest professional award.
