Three new pharmaceutical products awarded honour

Three UK Prix Galien gold medals for pharmaceutical innovation have been awarded to new medicines this year. The winners are: alglucosidase alfa (Myozyme; Genzyme), an orphan drug for the treatment of Pompe disease; Rotarix (GlaxoSmithKline), a vaccine for the prevention of rotavirus infection; and omalizumab (Xolair; Novartis), an add-on therapy for patients with severe persistent allergic asthma.
