Pharmacy ownership

Student seminars

From Mr M. H. Smith, FRPharmS

I was interested to read in the PJ (30 September, p407) that community pharmacy ownership is the top ambition among pharmacy students.

I have organised, together with my colleagues at UniChem, seminars over the past three years at various schools of pharmacy. The seminar takes the form of an hour of presentations followed by another hour or so for questions. I like to give living examples of young pharmacists who have actually chosen this career path and I am pleased to say that several of the final-year students whom we have spoken to have already achieved their goal of ownership.

Our next seminar is at Aston University on 22 November. The real difficulty with these seminars is fitting them into the already crowded academic year, but if any of the schools would like to book a date please contact me by sending an e-mail to mike.h.smith@unichem.co.uk

As a footnote I would add that I greatly enjoy these events. It is so refreshing to stand in front of room of 50 or so pharmacy students who have such great enthusiasm for our profession. Its future is certainly safe in their hands.

Mike Smith
Chairman
