Advice to be offered on use of homoeopathic medicines in malaria prophylaxis
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is preparing advice for pharmacists who are asked to supply homoeopathic medicines for malaria prophylaxis.
Following media reports of an investigation into the supply of homeopathic
medicines by clinics and pharmacies for that purpose, the Law and Ethics
Committee considered the matter at its meeting on 26 September.
The committee heard that the Faculty of Homeopathy (the professional
body for health care professionals who integrate homoeopathy into their
practice) does not promote homoeopathy for the prevention of malaria
and has worked with the Health Protection Agency to produce guidance
advising against it.
The Society’s advice is being prepared in consultation with the
Faculty of Homeopathy and the HPA. It will appear as a Law and Ethics
Bulletin item.
