Information to be prescribed

Information prescriptions, in addition to those for medicines, are being piloted in a £1.35m study launched by health minister Rosie Winterton this week.

The prescriptions will provide information about websites, helplines and support groups relevant to individual patients. Further details about the pilots, which will run until the end of 2007 and initially focus on cancer and mental health, will be announced later in the year.
