Tesco falls foul of MHRA rule on multiple purchase offers
A complaint about Tesco's advertising of its medicines has been upheld by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
In August Boots The Chemists complained to the MHRA that Tesco’s
multiple purchase offer on Resolve (paracetamol) and Resolve Extra (paracetamol)
could lead to unnecessary medicine purchases.
The MHRA upheld the complaint and Tesco agreed to withdraw the offer
and take steps to ensure it did not run such promotions in the future.
The MHRA also expressed concern about one of Tesco’s leaflets promoting
a “buy one get one free” offer on three brands of allergy
tablets. The leaflet did not clearly identify the allergy tablets as
medicines and the phrase “Always read the label/leaflet” was
lost in the small print at the bottom of the page, the MHRA said.
A complaint by the British Herbal Medicine Association about a promotional
offer that included herbal remedies and Tesco Slimming Aid, a general
sales list medicinal product, was not upheld. |
