All Wales business rate relief scheme will help pharmacy

Adoption of an all Wales small business rate relief scheme will support the existence of the community pharmacy as an important part of the local business infrastructure, says the National Pharmacy Association in its response to the Welsh Assembly Government’s consultation on plans to introduce the scheme.

The scheme, to replace the rural rate relief scheme, would provide rates relief of 50 per cent for businesses with a rateable value under £2,000, and 25 per cent for businesses with a rateable value between £2,000 and £4,999.

The NPA highlights that, unlike post offices, GP surgeries and dental practices, community pharmacies are not currently recognised in any form of support for business rates. It calls for the proposed enhanced rate relief for post offices to be extended to community pharmacies.
