New pharmacists urged to play active part
Newly registered pharmacists have been urged by the Vice-President of
the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Gerald Alexander, to play an active
part in the profession, in the Society’s local branches and in
pharmacy’s numerous special interest groups.
Speaking at a registration ceremony for newly registered pharmacists
in Edinburgh on 24 October, the Vice-President said that such involvement
would secure support for local workplace activities but it would also
establish a much wider network of peers all over Britain and even overseas.
Mr Alexander said that there was an opportunity for Scotland to drive
its national health programme forward and Scottish pharmacists were rising
to the challenge and leading the way. Every pharmacist was a public relations
officer for the profession, a fact that should be remembered when communicating
with patients and other members of the health care team. “Above
all, be proud of your profession and let your profession be proud of
you,” he told the audience.
Earlier, the director of the Scottish Department, Lyndon Braddick, told
guests that the Edinburgh registration ceremony was the only event of
its type within the Society. It was a great pleasure to see so many relatives
and friends supporting the new entrants to the profession. “This
historic building is your building,” he told the new pharmacists. “You
are welcome to use its facilities.”
