Pharmacists' views on care records are being considered

Although pharmacists are not represented on the NHS Summary Care Record Taskforce their views are being sought, said public health minister Caroline Flint, in response to a parliamentary question from MP Sandra Gidley (Lib Dem, Romsey).

Mrs Gidley asked the minister what factors were taken into account when determining membership of the taskforce and if she will provide for pharmacist representation on it. Ms Flint replied that the taskforce’s role is not intended as long-term and, in order to be fit for purpose, members were selected only from organisations that are key to the successful implementation of the early adopter sites of the summary record, including primary care, accident and emergency services and patient organisations.

However, she said that it is important that the taskforce considers the views of all stakeholders and added that its chairman has already met representatives of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee, and asked them for written evidence.
