Supply of an injecting kit will attract a fee of £1.54 in Wales

Indicative rates for two further national enhanced services for Wales have been set, Community Pharmacy Wales announced this week.

From January 2007, supervised administration of medicines and syringe and needle exchange will join care home support services, minor ailment services and pharmaceutical rota services as the enhanced services for which national indicative rates have been negotiated.

The agreed annual fee for syringe and needle exchange schemes is £146.63 and the fee per injecting kit supplied is £1.54. Vaccinations for pharmacy staff providing the service should be arranged or reimbursed by local health boards. Supervised administration of medicines will attract a monthly fee of £48.46 for methadone and £65.20 for Subutex (buprenorphine).

As with the first three enhanced service indicative rates announced in July (PJ, 29 July, p125), CPW emphasises that where a service differs from that described in the national enhanced service specification, the service will be considered a locally revised enhanced service. Remuneration rates will then have to be agreed between the local health board and the appropriate CPW regional committee using Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and CPW guidance.
