Diabetes commissioning toolkit published
A toolkit to help NHS commissioners — at both a primary care trust and practice level — commission diabetes services has been published by the Department of Health.
The toolkit includes advice on how to carry out a health needs assessment
for the local diabetes population, a generic specification for diabetes
care, indicators that commissioners can use to monitor the quality of
current local services and key outcomes that a commissioner could specify
when commissioning diabetes care.
A spokesman for the DoH said: “NHS commissioners need to adopt
a strategic approach to commissioning diabetes care in order to improve
quality and ensure best use of the available resources.”
The guidance is available from the DoH
