TB cases rise by 11 per centTuberculosis diagnoses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have increased by nearly 11 per cent, according to data released last week by the Health Protection Agency. The agency says that over 8,100 cases were reported in 2005, compared with around 7,300 cases in 2004. The highest rate of disease was observed in London, where TB cases account for about 43 per cent of those reported, the HPA says. The annual “Focus on tuberculosis” report, providing further analysis of the data, is expected to be published later this month. |
