Patient safety

Pharmacists should create a similar pledge

From Professor Sir John Lilleyman

Your leading article on the 4 November (p534) entitled “Patient safety to the fore” pointed out that the National Patient Safety Agency had not invited other bodies, such as the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, to sign the pledge: “A commitment to patient safety”.

This was a professional initiative from within the medical profession with the NPSA playing a facilitative role in producing the pledge.

We would welcome working with pharmacists to create a similar pledge and recognise their importance in delivering patient safety.

John Lilleyman
Medical Director, NPSA
