New medicine for urinary incontinence launched

Novartis has launched a new treatment for urinary incontinence. Darifenacin (Emselex), a urinary antispasmodic, is intended to treat urge incontinence, increased urinary frequency and urgency that may occur in patients with overactive bladder syndrome.

Last month, the National Institute for Health Clinical Excellence recommended that darifenacin be considered as an alternative for patients intolerant of immediate-release oxybutynin (PJ, 28 October, p506).
