National board candidates’ “Who’s who”
SUMMARY
The first elections to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's national pharmacy boards for England, Scotland and Wales are now getting under way.
Voting papers were due to be posted on 8 December, accompanied by booklets
containing the candidates’ biographical details and declarations
of relevant interests along with their election statements. There are
separate booklets for the elections of pharmacists in each country and
for the elections of technicians in England and Wales. The Council’s
policy on the conduct of board elections appears at the back of each
election booklet.
Completed voting papers must be received by Electoral Reform Services
not later than noon on Friday 12 January 2007. The elected board members
will take office as from 0.01am on Sunday 21 January 2007.
The candidates’ biographical details and declarations of relevant
interests also appear on this and the following nine pages (PDF 550K).
A key to the divisions within the biographical details and the declarations
appears
in a panel at the foot of this page.
England In England, there are 20 pharmacist candidates (see below),
of whom 17 are contesting the six unreserved places for pharmacists.
Seven of these are also the only candidates in the election of one pharmacist
to represent the community sector. A further four are among the seven
candidates in the election of a pharmacist to represent the primary care/public
health sector.
Because of a shortage of other sectoral candidates there are no elections
to fill the places reserved for representatives of hospital pharmacy,
industry and academia. The sole candidate in the hospital sector, David
Miller, and the sole candidate in the industry sector, Steve Wicks, have
both been declared elected (see p717). In the absence of any nominations
in the academia sector, the board’s first meeting will consider
whether to co-opt a member from academia.
In the information about pharmacist candidates in England, the letters
in parentheses after candidates’ names indicate whether they are
standing for an unreserved place (u) and/or for the single sectoral place
for community pharmacy (c) or primary care/public health (p).
In the election of a pharmacy technician to serve on the English Pharmacy
Board, there are two candidates (see p711).
Scotland Fifteen candidates are contesting the election of 12 pharmacists
to serve on the Scottish Pharmacy Board (see p712). The Scottish board
has no sectoral places and no place for a pharmacy technician.
Wales The Welsh Pharmacy Board has places for 11 elected pharmacists
and one pharmacy technician. There are 18 pharmacist candidates (see
p714) and two pharmacy technician candidates (see p717).
