Guidance published on primary medical services

A guide to primary medical services for potential contractors — including pharmacists — has been published by NHS Primary Care Contracting (PDF 470K).

It offers an introduction to primary medical services contracting — including general medical services, personal medical services and alternative provider medical services — and the surrounding regulatory framework.

Primary medical services are offered to registered patients alongside traditional general practice and can be provided by anyone capable of securing the delivery of such services. Specialist personal medical services arrangements, it says, may be of particular interest to non-GP providers, such as pharmacists, since essential general practice services need not be provided.
